Startup window

The Startup window is the first window you see when you turn on the PC and the last window when you stop the system.

Perform any of the following tasks at this window:

·   new start

·   restart

·   back up and restore system files

·   shut down and restart the Windows operating system

Using the Startup window

  1. At the Menu Panel, select System(s) (to open the System menu), then select Exit(x).

  2. When prompted, select Yes, then select Yes when prompted again.

Windows restarts.

  1. When prompted, press Ctrl-Alt-Delete.

  2. At the Log on to Windows window, enter the Windows User name and Password, then select OK.

The Startup window opens.

If you select Cancel at the window, the Startup window closes, leaving you in Windows (you are not able to perform the above functions). To open the Startup window again, restart Windows.

Performing a new start

At the beginning of each day, perform a new start (normally, a new start is run once a day). This sets up the software, and clears workorders and analysis data from the previous day. Workorders and data created today are cleared in the next new start.

  1. Ensure that today’s date displays in the System date box before you continue.

If needed, enter today’s date in the box in yyyymmdd format.

  1. Select New Start.

  1. In the User Name and Password fields, enter your user name and user password, then select OK.

User passwords assigned in the User Code Settings window are not case sensitive.

While the "System Starting" message is on your screen, startup is taking place. When the Menu and Operational Panels open, startup is complete.

  1. At the Operation Panel, select Initialize.

Performing a restart

Use this procedure if you have shut down the software during the day. This brings the software back up, but leaves today’s workorders and analysis data intact.

  1. Ensure today’s date displays in the System date box before you continue.

Enter today’s date in the box, in yyyymmdd format, if needed.

  1. Select Restart.

Shutting down Windows

Perform this procedure after the system software is shutdown.

  1. At the Windows Desktop, select Start, then select Shutdown.

In a few minutes, a message displays, stating that it is OK to turn off the computer. Windows is shut down.

  1. You can now turn off the PC, or select Restart to restart Windows and the analyzer software.

Backing up system files

The system software consists of the operating system, data processing software, and user-specific system and data files. Back up the system files whenever you make any configuration or parameter changes. The following digital media options are available:

·   The back up can be saved to a USB memory stick. The location of the USB port varies by computer model. On newer models the port is below the CD Drive. On older models the port is located in the rear of the computer.

·   CD’s and DVD’s must be formatted before the ADVIA Backup / Restore function can be used. CD formatting takes a few minutes. If using a DVD, select the full format option instead of quick format. Formatting will take 40 to 60 minutes to complete.

A CD or memory stick is easier to use than a DVD for this procedure.

Optional backup and restore to a DVD disc

Materials required:

·   One USB memory stick or

·   A blank CD-R or

·   A CD-RW or DVD-RW (for systems equipped with a read/write CD or DVD drive)

Time: 10 minutes

Analyzer mode: Ready

  1. Use an indelible marker to write System back up with the current date on a disk label.

  2. If the disk is not formatted, format the disk as follows:

  1. Close the ADVIA software. At the main Startup window select Cancel.

  2. Insert the labeled disk into the CD/DVD drive.

  3. At the Windows taskbar, right-select Start, then select Explore.

  4. In the left pane of the Explorer window, locate and right-select the CD/DVD drive (E: or X:).

  5. Select Format.

  6. On the Drag-to-Disc Format Options window, select Full Format.

NOTE

Use Quick Format for a blank DVD only.

  1. Select OK.

  2. On the Drag-to-Disc Preparation Needed window, select Yes.

  3. Acknowledge any prompts related to formatting.

  1. Restart the ADVIA software.

  1. At the Windows desktop, select the Start button.

  2. Select Programs, then select Startup and choose HRSTART.

  1. At the Startup window, select Back-up.

  2. At the ADVIA Backup window, select Make a Backup Copy.

  3. Select the System files and Data files to be backed up from the following options:

·   System Files - Only selected operating files are saved. Approximately 30 MB of disk space is required.

·   Data Files  - Save all system software and patient data files. May require up to 800 MB of disc space but will generally fit on one CD or DVD disc.

  1. Verify that the backup name is the current date.

NOTE

The system names the backup automatically, which consists of a yyyymmdd format. Accept the destination folder default for the DVD disc drive letter (usually D:) or select Browse to choose a different destination. If a recordable disc is not available, then you can store the backup on the partitioned storage drive (D:).

  1. Select Execute.

  2. At the Backup window, select OK to confirm the copy.

note

If an error window displays, reformat the disk and try again.

  1. When the file copy completes, at the Backup window, select OK.

Restoring the system

  1. Insert the memory stick or load the CD or the DVD containing the backup files into the CD drive.

NOTEs

·   When restoring backed-up data files (in the Data subfolder under the A002 folder), select the Delete Data Files checkbox at the ADVIA Backup window. This deletes any current data files on the PC hard drive before the backed up system and data files are restored.

·   If the current data files are needed, perform a backup before restoring previous files. The restore feature restores all files (system and or data files) that were previously backed up. If this is the case, close the ADVIA Backup window and perform Backing up system files (see above).

  1. At the Startup window, select Back-up.

  2. At the ADVIA Backup window, select Restore a Backup Copy, then browse to the source folder that contains the backup files to restore and select Execute.

  3. At the Restore confirmation window, select OK.

If the disc contains all the backed up files required for the restore procedure, the copy function begins.

  1. If the backed up files are on more than one disc, select Continue.

  2. At the ADVIA Backup window, select Exit, select Restore, then select OK.

  3. At the ADVIA Backup window, select Cancel.

  4. Reboot the PC.
